Indy Runners and Walkers provides group club runs and walks for your year-round enjoyment. There is a pace for the beginner, the flyer, and everyone in between.

How to Join Us

It’s simple – just show up! We’ll do our best to make you feel welcome and explain how the runk or walk works.

Our annual membership is $35, however enjoy your first month with us for free.

What to bring

  • Running or Walking Shoes: Comfortable shoes are essential for enjoying your run or walk.
  • Water: Hydration is key, especially in warmer weather.
  • Positive Attitude: We’re a friendly group and love welcoming new faces—just bring your enthusiasm and enjoy!

MONDAY AM (RUN)
3-5 miles | Downtown Athenaeum YMCA

Distance: 3-5 miles: The run is on the Cultural Trail and Downtown Canal. You can alter this route to add more miles if you like.

Additional Information:
Meet in lobby of or outside the entrance to the Y. 3, 4 and 5-mile options are available, following the same route as the Wednesday evening group. The route is on sidewalks with some street crossings. Although it is lit, light-colored or reflective gear is recommended.

Street parking is available for free until 7am and at the standard metered rate after that. The Y also offers free parking in the lot just north of the Old National Center accessible off of North Street between Alabama and New Jersey Streets. Restrooms are available inside the Y and lockers/showers can be accessed using your Y membership or guest pass. Y membership is NOT required to join the run.

This run offers two options! Both options start at the fieldhouse.

  • A regular group run goes along 52nd St to the Central Canal Towpath, which has a nice, crushed limestone surface. The run typically heads southwest along the canal. It is an out and back course so you can run whatever distance you choose (1-8+ miles)!

A group doing speedwork will warm-up by running to an appropriate speedwork location (e.g., running track, Central Canal Towpath for tempo runs, Crown Hill Cemetery or Holcomb Gardens for hill repeats, …)
On any given day, there will be different paces and distances, so there is a distance and pace for everyone. Afterwards, we typically hang around and socialize. repeats, …)

Parking Information:
Parking is available in the above parking lot where it says “Parking” However, obey the signs. If there is a sign mentioning “Permit Parking,” do not park there. Additional parking is available along neighborhood roads to the south of Hinkle Fieldhouse. (Please don’t park next to fire hydrants, block driveways, or along roads with “No Parking” signs.)

Restrooms are available for changing, etc., prior to the run. Enter Gate 1 and walk straight ahead. The restrooms are on your left.

Distance: The suggested route of 3-10+ miles may vary from week to week to keep it interesting: north or south on the Monon Trail, the Williams Creek loop, part of the Monumental Marathon course, etc. Longer runs are available during the Spring and Fall Training Programs. However, you may run as long or as short as you want. We tend to run either an out and back route or a loop, so custom distances (including shorter distances) are definitely possible.

Don’t worry. There are a wide variety of paces available (from 6:00/mile to 13:00/mile).

Distance: Participants walk 1-6 miles at various speeds with longer walks available during the summer/fall race training programs. Most participants walk north/south along the Monon Trail, so you can walk as short or as far as you want.

SUNDAY AM (Run)
2-13.1 Miles | Fort Harrison (Park Pass Required)

Meet inside the park in the parking lot by the restrooms labeled “Shafter A” across from Sledding Hill. (To quickly find the meet-up location, you can also enter the plus code 86FMVXCF+9C into the Google Maps or Waze app in place of an address, and it will indicate the meet-up location in the park.) You will need to purchase a daily or annual pass as most runs go in and out of the park.

Distance: Courses are available from 2-13.1 miles. 6 miles of the course is inside Fort Harrison State Park.

Additional Information:
You will need to purchase a daily or annual pass as most runs go in and out of the park. This Sunday run with a few exceptions is a slower paced run with most runners over 50. All ages are welcome and runners follow various routes as there are many courses available. Water is available when the fountains are running and water is also provided with cups by the gatehouse. Dogs welcome too! Here is a map showing various running routes. Note: The distances are not accurate as they assume an old starting location.

You must have a pass to enter the park. The daily pedestrian entry fee is $2 per person. An annual entrance permit which is good at all Indiana state parks is available for $50. These annual passes run from January 1st to December 31st. Please note: The park fee schedule is subject to change. Check the current fee schedule here.
